For a number of years I have taken particular interest in the integration of technology in my trans-disciplinary process. Widespread interest in virtual or hybrid work during the pandemic years presented new opportunities for a deeper dive into working with technology.
Following are notes and reflections on the ongoing creative research process ‘you me here there now then’.
In 2020 for an online artist fellowship with the Institute for Creative Arts, University of Cape Town, I developed online live performance process - https://www.gaaraprojects.com/bodies-in-displacement.html - for 2 musicians (Alejandro Olarté - modular synths, Rapassa Otieno - Nyatiti) , 1 dancer (Waithera Schr) and 1 media designer (myself - TouchDesinger & Isadora) interacting and collaborating from multiple locations in Finland, France and the UK.
In 2021 together with the musicians Alejandro Olarté and Andrew Bentley on live electroacoustics and myself on audio-reactive visuals we collaborated on Audio-visual network performance between Helsinki, Vilnius and Var.
Subsequent to these ‘virtual’ experiments my recent and ongoing processes on which I reflect in subsequent sections intend to bring those experiences to the physical space with live audiences.
